Dear __________________________

Illegal Metric Road/Pedestrian Sign

I believe the undermentioned sign(s) is/are unauthorised by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 and hence illegal:

Description and location of signs:

 __________________________________________________________________________________________
Unless these are amended, removed or replaced within 14 days of the date of this letter, any of the following actions will be taken where appropriate:

1. Legal action in the High Court by way of injunction proceedings which, if successful, would probably result in your authority having to pay significant costs
2. Removal of the sign
3. Covering over the sign so that the unlawful metric units may no longer be seen
4. A report of illegal expenditure to the District Auditor.

Please note that the Traffic Signs Regulations apply to pedestrian signs as well as road traffic signs.

In the case of those who have erected metric signs on private land, please note that the Traffic Signs Regulations apply to roads used by the public and signs erected on the highway.

If you say the sign does conform with the Traffic Signs Regulations, please explain how. I await your reply within the next 14 days.

Yours sincerely
